NEGATIVE DRAINAGE CORRECTION
This is a very common problem that we see in many newer homes as well as older properties. The settling process around a new home’s foundation is due to lack of compaction of backfill materials and to be expected during the first year. This process can take many years to completely settle out. During this time it is often necessary to add more soil to prevent negative drainage of water near the foundation. It is also important that the correct type of soil be used when backfilling. Loose sandy or any shredded topsoil like material should not be used to fill these areas. It will settle badly and is way too permeable thus allowing rainwater to soak in instead of flowing away.
