EROSION CONTROL

Erosion Control is the prevention of dirt or sediment from moving or becoming loose and suspended.

Sediment Control is catching or containing the sediment or soil once it has moved or become suspended.

Any project where we move dirt is subject to erosion problems. We have the capability of solving your erosion/sediment control issues both proactive and reactive to the start of a new project or the remediation of a failed one. Through our continued education through the IECA – International Erosion Control Association, we stay educated and certified on the installation of all the products offered to us in our region.

Available Erosion Control Products

Erosion Control Blankets (ECB)

Another popular method for preventing erosion is through the use of erosion control blankets. These blankets are made from either straw, excelsior fibers, or coconut. Erosion blanket is a standard in-stock item annually for us.  Straw blankets speak for themselves. They are made from locally grown wheat straw, where excelsior blankets are made from the world’s largest organism, Aspen trees.  Excelsior is truly sustainable, its fibers are barbed when shredded and it sticks to the ground like glue. Coir is made from shredded coconut husks. This product has limited use and is typically used in high flow areas or on severe steep slopes where slope stabilization is critical. We provide Erosion and Sediment control services on small or grand scales, a front yard, ditch, berm, pond stabilization, or a ball field.

Silt Fence

Silt fence is something that you see on almost every construction site. This short black fence that surrounds the job site is used to stop sediment runoff while allowing water to pass. We install silt fences on commercial, industrial, civil, and sometimes residential applications.

Erosion Wattles

These are devices shaped like a long tubes that are filled with straw, excelsior, or wood by-products.  They are typically used as ditch checks, edge of curb protection. Inlet protection or anything related to holding back sediment while allowing water to pass.

Curb Ezze

Curb Ezze is an edge of curb protection to meet or exceed any city’s BMP compliance program. BMP is defined as,“ Best Management Practice”.

This product is made in Wichita & Manhattan Ks., by the proud workers at Starkey industries located in Wichita and Big Lakes Developmental in Manhattan Ks. You can purchase this product in Wichita, at Star Lumber & Supply or Mill Creek Lumber. In Manhattan, you can purchase this product at either Meade Lumber or Griffith Lumber. This product helps to support both communities by providing work and income to people in our community with special needs.

Slope Protection

Typically slope protection is best served using either an (ECB), Erosion Control Blanket, or the Hydroseeding method. Factors of concern would be the degree of the slope, type of grass, soil conditions, and time of the year. Each blanket is not created equal and they have their applicable use.  Blankets, wattles, and ditch checks can play a major role in getting grass started, slowing water down, and holding seedlings in place long enough to get a foothold. We have developed a special process for establishing vegetation to slopes and through the use of additional fast-growing cover crops have had great success with this propagation method.
